Duchess Meghan's best friends give rare insight into her life behind closed doors

In an effort to "stand up against the global bullying" of Meghan Markle, five of the duchess' best friends spoke out in an anonymous group interview with People magazine to dispel rumors, allegations and misconceptions about their longtime pal.

"Meg has silently sat back and endured the lies and untruths," a former co-star said. "We worry about what this is doing to her and the baby. It's wrong to put anyone under this level of emotional trauma, let alone when they're pregnant."

In addition to clarifying the relationships (or lack thereof) that she has had with her estranged family members, Meghan's friends also gave rare insight into what she's like behind closed doors. During a recent visit to Meghan and Harry's home at Kensington Palace (they'll soon move away from Kensington Palace and into Frogmore Cottage as they prepare for their first child), her friends noticed that the former "Suits" star's nature hasn't changed.

"We've all been to their cottage," one friend said. "It's small and she's made it cozy, but the perception of their lifestyle and the reality are two different things. Meg cooks for herself and Harry every single day."

Another friend, from L.A., opened up about her own visit to see the same Meghan that she's always known and loved.

"We had a couple of days together recently. Her husband was out of town on work. In the room she made up for me, there was a candle lit by the bed, slippers and a robe. We were the only two in the house. It was our time. She made the most lovely meals. She made tea every day," she said. "It was raining and muddy outside, so the dogs got all dirty, and she’s wiping them off with towels. How much she loves her animals, how much she loves her friends, how much she loves feeding you, taking care of you -- none of that has changed."

The so-called confidante went on to say that she also noticed this during Meghan and Harry's wedding day back in May 2017, when the then-future Duchess of Sussex was cool, calm and collected, despite being under the intense spotlight of international media.

"We could feel Meg's energy," the friend recalled. "The calm that she moves with. That's how it felt because that's how she and Harry are as a couple."

Not only is she the same in person as she's always been, they claim, but she's also still a dependable friend from across the pond.

"If I'm thrown some kind of curveball, I always think, 'I gotta talk to Meg,'" another former colleague told People. "We talk daily. And the first thing out of her mouth is, 'How are the kids? How are you?' I'm not even allowed to ask about her until she finds out about me."

Previous reports had painted the duchess as difficult and demanding, noting that three employees have quit after less than a year of working for her.
