Jenna Dewan recalls days as a Texan cheerleader: 'Glitter was a way of life' (Exclusive)

Jenna Dewan's days growing up as a high school cheerleader in Texas have stuck with her all these years later.

The former "World of Dance" host, who lived in Grapevine, Texas, for part of her high school career, embraced the over-the-top culture of dance in Texas at the time, and she told AOL recently that she still utilizes some of the beauty tricks she learned back then -- with an emphasis on the world some.

"I’m a Texan dancer, so glitter eyeliner was a way of life for many years," she laughed during an interview at Savvy Minerals' Sip & Lip Bar at the Sundance Film Festival. "It was like, you wake up, you put your glitter eyeliner on."

"My makeup artists are amazing, and they teach me tricks all the time, but then I have my own tricks from being a dancer for years and doing stage makeup," she went on. "They always laugh, because I end up teaching them things, too."

Though she's a self-described "beauty junkie," Dewan finds that as a mother to daughter, Everly, 5, who she shares with ex Channing Tatum, she has less and less time in her day to really focus on her makeup -- which makes her inclined to truly go all-out when she hits the red carpet.

"As I got older and becoming a mom, I started to do my makeup at stoplights in the car," she said. "It’s all about what I can do that’s quick and easy during the day, but I love makeup when I go out and playing with makeup with products that are easy, good for you, simple and have that natural look that can be amplified for nighttime."

One of the brands that she loves the most is Savvy Minerals, a brand for which she serves as a brand ambassador. It's the Young Living brand's propensity for clean, cruelty-free products that got Dewan onboard.

"I love makeup and I eat really healthy -- I’m vegan -- so I believe in no animal testing and being kind to animals, and there were a lot of things that certain beauty lines weren’t doing, so I wasn’t comfortable being part of them," she explained. "Then Savvy came around and I actually really like and love the products. I love that there are essential oils in the products, and I just think it’s a perfect combination."

The actress also admitted that, though Young Living products make it simple to detoxify her household products across the board, she still isn't "perfect" when it comes to the things she uses around the house and in her beauty routine.

"It’s so easy [to be clean]," she said. "People think it’s a whole big thing, but it’s really quite simple. I use the Thieves oil in everything: Dish soap, hand sanitizer, home cleaner. It smells good, and it works just as well. I believe in it. I’m not perfect, and we live in a world that is toxic, so I try to do as much as I can to eliminate enough toxins as possible."
