Heather and Terry Dubrow on surviving the 'Housewives Curse': 'We learned a lot' (Exclusive)

Heather and Terry Dubrow's relationship is as strong as ever as they celebrate 22 years of marriage.

The couple, who appeared on Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Orange County" for five seasons, recently opened up to AOL about their ability to escape the so-called "Housewives Curse" (wherein couples who appear on the show end up breaking up).

"You know they talk about the curse of the Housewives? Like, couples [on the show] get [divorced]?" Terry asked during a recent Facebook Live interview.

"Or, reality show [curse]," Heather clarified, noting that couples that have appeared on other non-Housewives shows have also gone through their fair share of divorces.

"There was a season -- I think it was [our] third season [on "RHOC"] -- where we were fighting and it wasn't going well. We were fighting about being on the show and obviously it's a little too meta to do that on the show, so it looked like we were fighting about something else," Heather explained of their experience. "We were fighting, and then we sat down and were like, 'Look, this is not good for our marriage, and we either have to figure out how to do this and be good, or we gotta get off.'"

"And we learned a lot," she went on. "Marriage is a leap of faith, and you can either grow together or grow apart, and I think we've done a really good job at working on the things like going on date nights, having sex, knowing how to fight."

The couple, who co-wrote last year's most-Googled wellness book, "The Dubrow Diet: Interval Eating for Weight Loss and Feeling Ageless," feels as though they have enough wisdom to share about how to be in a successful, long-lasting relationship that it could result in another book.

Of course, they're still wary of the so-called "curse."

"We really feel like we understand relationships and how to hack a relationship," Terry explained. "We feel like there's a relationship book in us, but we're afraid that you right a relationship book and -- guess what?"

"Then you split," Heather finished.
