Michael Strahan on falling out with Kelly Ripa: 'You can't convince people to like you'

Time doesn't heal all wounds.

2019 will mark three years since Michael Strahan's messy, highly-publicized departure from "Live! With Kelly and Michael," and while Kelly Ripa has found her groove with new co-host Ryan Seacrest, that doesn't mean all is well between her and Strahan.

In new interview with Time, Strahan didn't shy away from the topic, admitting, "I haven't spoken to her in a long time."

The former NFL star continued, "I learned through all that went down with that, you can’t convince people to like you."

After Strahan was offered a prominent anchor role at "Good Morning America," Ripa took an unplanned weeklong break from "Live" amid reports that she was stunned and blindsided by ABC's offer. As Ripa fumed, execs hastened Strahan's transition from one show to the other, leaving Ripa without a co-host.

After a string of temporary co-hosts, Seacrest took his permanent spot alongside Ripa.

In 2018, Strahan said, there was "nothing" he would have done differently about the situation.

"I handled it as professional as you can handle it and I have been a professional from day one there to the last day I left," he said. "I had the opportunity to do something that most people don't—I get a chance to evolve; to do different, creative things."
