Why Anne Hathaway is 'not really interested in right and wrong anymore' (Exclusive)

Anne Hathaway is making choices for herself these days.

Two decades into her career, the Oscar-winning actress describes herself as "really happy" as a result of a gratifying personal life and the more instinctual approach that she's taken with her career over the last several years.

At a screening for her new Steven Knight-directed film, "Serenity," at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, Hathaway caught up with AOL's Gibson Johns, where she said that she's having more and more fun as her career progresses.

"I'm focused less on doing the right thing and [more on] just being in the moment," she told AOL exclusively. "I'm not actually really interested in right and wrong anymore."

"I just feel really happy and lucky to be here," she went on. "I'm not happy all the time, but I'm a lot more comfortable in my own skin. And I'm apologizing for taking up space less. Here's to late bloomers!"

In addition thinking a bit less deeply about every decision she makes in her career, Hathaway has also found incredible happiness in her family life with husband, Adam Shulman, and their son, Jonathan, 2. It's something that her latest role in "Serenity," as a woman with an abusive husband, has given her a deeper appreciation for.

"[The role] made me very grateful to be in the relationship that I’m in, that I have a partner and someone to co-create this life with, which is not [my character] Karen’s situation," she told AOL. "She has an abusive man who just wants to control her and she’s desperately trying to -- honestly, at this point, I think she’s given up on herself. She’s trying to save herself."

"Serenity," co-starring Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey, hits theaters on Friday, January 25.
