Rihanna sues her own father for exploiting her name: report

Updated

Rihanna is taking legal action against her father.

The "Work" hitmaker filed a lawsuit against her dad, Ronald Fenty, and a company called Fenty Entertainment this week, TheBlast reports. The singer claims that Ronald and business partner Moses Perkins have been exploiting her name by booking gigs without her permission or knowledge.

"Although Mr. Fenty is Rihanna's father, he does not have, and never has had, authority to act on Rihanna's behalf," the filing reads.

Though Ronald claims to have run the various bookings -- including a $15 million tour of Latin America -- by his daughter's record label, Roc Nation, Rihanna alleges that her label is denying to have any knowledge of such business deals.

Ronald has continuously avoided the singer's ceases and desist letters, and even went so far as to attempt to trademark "Fenty," which is the last name that they both share, for a reported line of boutique hotels. His application was denied. Rihanna (real name Robyn Rihanna Fenty) uses her surname on plenty of her own personal brands, including the wildly successful Fenty Beauty.

Rihanna has been open about the fact that her father physically abused her mother while growing up. The singer told "Good Morning America" that the alleged abuse got so bad that he once broke her mother's nose. The singer had seemingly repaired things with her father, as she posted two photos with Ronald as recently as August of 2018 during a trip home to Barbados.

Rihanna is seeking an injunction against her father.
