Life in plastic might be fantastic, but Mattel is taking Barbie to the big screen -- and bringing her to life.

On Tuesday, Warner Bros. and Mattel announced that Margot Robbie will not only be portraying the title character in it's first ever live-action film, but will have producing credits as well.

"Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child’s journey to self-discovery. Over the brand’s almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president,” Robbie said. “I’m so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide. I can’t imagine better partners than Warner Bros and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen.”

The upcoming film is the first project to come out of Mattel Films. Ynon Kreiz, chairman and CEO of Mattel stated “Barbie is one of the most iconic franchises in the world and we are excited to partner with Warner Bros. Pictures and Margot Robbie to bring her to life on the big screen."

Robbie has starred in a number of successful films over the past couple of years. Best known for her work in "The Wolf of Wall Street," "I,Tonya," and as Harley Quinn in "Suicide Squad," her upcoming role as the iconic doll might just be her biggest yet.
