A Broadway musical adaption of 'The Notebook' is on its way

I wrote you every day for a year. (And a half.)

That's what Ingrid Michaelson and "This Is Us" writer Bekah Brunstetter will be saying when they finally finish up their adaption of Nicholas Sparks' "The Notebook," which will eventually make its Broadway debut. Michaelson made the official announcement Thursday on "Today," much to the glee of numerous people on set.

“I’m writing a musical and the musical is ‘The Notebook!'" Michaelson told Hoda Kotb, eliciting shrieks from Kotb and several people off-camera.

Michaelson will write the show's music and lyrics while Brunstetter, a writer-producer on NBC's tearjerker "This Is Us," will write the book.

"From day one, Ingrid and Bekah have had a clear vision for the show, and even at this early stage, it has proven to be an exceptionally exciting and fruitful collaboration," show producers Kevin McCollum and Kurt Deutsch said in a statement.

"The Notebook" was published in 1996, but it became a cultural phenomenon with the release of the 2004 romantic drama starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling.

The film was released the same year as "Mean Girls," also starring McAdams, instantly putting the actress on the map as one of the buzziest stars in Hollywood. She and Gosling went on to date on-and-off for three years.
