Merry Christmas, Megyn Kelly; Kathy Griffin has a gift for you.
You might want to put on some gloves before opening it, though, because this present comes with a pretty heavy burn.
Griffin took aim at troubled TV personality Kelly on Wednesday, poking Kelly via an image of Barack Obama in a Santa hat and carrying a sack of goodies over his shoulder.
Griffin commented of the photo, which was apparently taken during Obama’s recent visit to the Children’s National Foundation, “@megynkelly, I have some news for you…”
Griffin appears to have reached deep into her sack o’ laughs to deliver the burn. The post is a seeming reference to a comment Kelly made in 2013, when Kelly, then host of Fox News’ “The Kelly File,” said, “By the way, for all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white.”
Kelly later said that the comment, which was in response to a Slate piece by Aisha Harris saying that depictions of Santa as a white man hurt children of other races, was made in jest.
“In kicking off the lighthearted segment, I offered a tongue-in-cheek message for any kids watching,” Kelly said.
Looks like Griffin also has her own jest-y take on the situation.
Of course, Kelly generated headlines more recently with another racially based comment, when she suggested on air earlier this year that blackface might be acceptable on Halloween.
“What is racist?” she asked during an October segment on “Megyn Kelly Today.” “You get in trouble if you’re a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. When I was a kid that was okay as long as you were dressing up as a character.”
The subsequent fallout led to Kelly’s departure from “Today.”
