'SNL': Sean Ono Lennon, son of John and Yoko, makes surprise appearance to perform with Miley Cyrus

This year's "Saturday Night Live" Christmas episode had an unexpected theme: Father-son love.

It began with Matt Damon, who avoided dumb jokes and gimmicky songs in his opening monologue to instead share some memories of his late father, who passed away in December 2017. And later in the night, attentive viewers were treated to another familial surprise: Sean Ono Lennon joined Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson onstage to perform John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "(Happy Xmas) War Is Over."

John and Yoko's 43-year-old son played guitar and sang backup vocals on the song his parents released in 1971. The thick-rimmed glasses, long hair and remarkable talent -- it all just runs in the family. (You'll see a close-up at 1:15 in the video.)

Sean's not the only Beatles offspring to take after his parents: Earlier this year, he snapped a photo while hanging out with Paul McCartney's son, James McCartney, who is now 41. James is also musically gifted -- could a collaboration be in the works?

The 38th anniversary of John Lennon's death was on December 8 of this year. The legendary artist was 40 years old when he was shot and killed in New York City.
