Nick Cannon doubles down on his statements about the hypocrisy of the Oscars

After calling out the Oscars on Twitter early this week, Nick Cannon hit the BUILD Series stage to clarify his statements.

The comedian was there to promote his new show, "The Masked Singer," but when things took a political turn, he didn't shy away from expressing his feelings.

"I could have called out so many different ethnic groups and cultures, we've all made mistakes and we are all growing and learning," Cannon told the BUILD audience.

Cannon came to the defense of Kevin Hart, who had to step down from hosting the 2019 Academy Awards due to homophobic statements he had made years before. But many fans were outraged by the way Cannon went about his defense -- calling out several other entertainers, including Chelsea Handler, Amy Schumer and Sarah Silverman.

At BUILD, he reiterated that his tirade wasn't aimed at individuals, but rather that he sought to bring light to bigger injustices.

"I respect and salute everybody that I reposted, but it was just to show that there's selected outrage. There's hypocrisy."

He went even further to say, "I think we need to start holding these organizations accountable before we start to focus on individuals."
