Ashton Kutcher had his birthday party at Borderline Bar & Grill — and was given a gun in the parking lot as a present

Gun owner Ashton Kutcher has spoken out about the need for stricter laws, but the mass shooting at Borderline Bar & Grill on Wednesday hit home for him, so he’s restating his case.

In a series of tweets, Kutcher revealed that his wife, Mila Kunis, threw him a birthday party earlier this year at the country-themed Thousand Oaks, Calif., establishment, where 13 people died on Wednesday night. Among those on the guest list was Joshua Kushner, the brother-in-law of Ivanka Trump. And it was in the parking lot of Borderline where he was gifted a gun for his birthday — one that he says he’ll probably never use.

Kutcher grew up in Iowa hunting and has owned various firearms since the age of 12. However, in a message seemingly directed toward government officials opposing reform laws, he tweeted, “Your electorate doesn’t want to die when they go to church or a concert or a bar!”

Kutcher also referred to the death of Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Ron Helus, who heroically raced into the venue and lost his life.

He proceeded to direct his tweets toward first daughter Ivanka Trump. Kutcher, who turned 40 in February, pointed out that her brother-in-law happened to have attended Kushner’s party at Borderline, noting, “He could have just as easily been a victim.”

In addition to reemphasizing the need for gun reform multiple times, Kutcher also noted the need for mental health initiatives and an expanded role for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

The last tweet in his thread commented on the firearm he received and the (un)likelihood of him ever shooting it. Finally, he promised the families of the victims, including Tamera Mowry-Housley and Adam Housley, whose niece was killed, “Change is coming.”

After the Route 91 Music Harvest Festival massacre in Las Vegas last year, Kutcher, who shares two young children with Kunis, spoke out to say “enough is enough.” He said, “I’m a hunter and a sportsman but No body needs these weapons… There’s a middle ground here let’s get to the table and find it.”
