Daryl Hannah and Neil Young confirm secret wedding in a post about gun control
Two months after it was reported that Daryl Hannah and Neil Young secretly tied the knot, the Kill Bill actress and Canadian rocker confirmed the rumors. Young, 72, referred to Hannah, 57, as his “wife” on his official website while talking about gun control, days ahead of the midterm elections.
The “Heart of Gold” crooner began by explaining about how his song “Ohio” was “written back in 1970 after seeing the cover of a magazine with a young girl kneeling beside her fallen friend” after “the National Guard murdered four students at Ohio’s Kent State University for protesting the Vietnam War.” Young says it “was a pivotal moment in our history. It was a pivotal moment for me. Today we see what we have become.
“With no real laws protecting us from guns, and with politicians supporting the NRA because the NRA supports them, we are not well represented. Today’s students are brave, demanding change in violent times,” he writes.
“We stand with them,” he continues. “They are us. We are them. This has been going on for far too long. My wife Daryl and I put this video together for you to reflect on. Support the students. Support our children. They want protection. Not more guns. Give us common sense gun laws that protect our people, in schools, in places of worship, in the workplace and on the streets. VOTE.”
Hannah shared a link to the post on Instagram by adding it to her bio.
Rumors of a secret wedding swirled in August as the pair reportedly wed in Atascadero, Calif., following an earlier ceremony aboard his yacht. Many of their friends congratulated them on social media.
Young and Hannah went public with their relationship in 2014, shortly after he split with his former wife, Pegi Young, after 36 years of marriage. “When we got together, even some of my good friends were negative about it, and I could never understand it,” Young told Yahoo Entertainment in March. “[Daryl is] a wonderful human being, and I’m very lucky to know her. That’s all I was thinking.”
He declared, “I’m very lucky. We’re very lucky to have found each other. I’m eternally thankful for the opportunity to share my life with her, and she feels the same.”
