'Fox & Friends' co-host Brian Kilmeade says he unwittingly made donation to Trump campaign

One "Fox & Friends" co-host is coming under fire for donating to President Trump’s campaign.

Brian Kilmeade spoke with The Hill and said he unknowingly made a $600 donation to the campaign during Christmas shopping back in 2016.

He said he was buying Christmas ornaments that looked like Trump’s Make America Great Again hats for his friends and family, which came after Trump won the 2016 presidential election.

"I had no idea that this would be considered a donation," Kilmeade said. "I’m looking for something cool and unique for Christmas for adults after the historic election."

The host said he bought the gifts on the Trump campaign website, claiming he just landed on the site on accident.

Now, on the website, when people buy souvenirs, users are given a choice to make an additional donation and, right before they checkout, they're required to enter their occupation because of a federal law for political contributions.

And on this page, the shipping and returns section says explicitly that transactions on the site are political contributions.

Fox News responded to The Hill saying it does not prohibit talent from buying holiday ornaments.
