Taraji P. Henson's son will walk her down the aisle: 'I think it's only right'

Taraji P. Henson's wedding will be a family affair through and through.

The actress shared with AOL a few intimate details of her upcoming nuptials, revealing that in the absence of her late father, her son, Marcell, will be the man to walk her down the aisle.

"I think it's only right that he give me away," she said, speaking to AOL after wrapping up her conversation about minority representation as part of Marriott's #LoveTravels Breaking Barriers initiative.

In fact, before fiance Kelvin Hayden dropped to one knee in May, he spoke to Marcell to make sure the 24-year-old was on board.

"My fiance reached out to him -- my dad has passed on, so he reached out to my son, like, 'What do you think, man?' And my son was like, 'Do it, she'll be so happy,'" Henson recalled. "All three of us went to dinner, and he was totally in on it, keeping my attention diverted while my fiance had the back room set up and everything. And we went into that room and he popped the question."

The relationship between Henson's fiance and son, she said, has been so meaningful to watch.

"My son hasn't really had any real male figures in his life," she said. "It's cool, when he's playing his music or whatever, he'll get Kelvin's input. It just warms my heart."

Marcell's father, Henson's high school sweetheart, was murdered in 2003.

"My son is very loving -- he could get along with a rock," Henson said. "We're very close. We're much closer now because he's an adult so we can talk freely and openly."
