Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson reportedly split

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have reportedly split.

TMZ first reported on Sunday that the couple broke up and called off their engagement over the weekend, citing sources close to the pair.

Grande and Davidson came to the conclusion that it "simply was not the right time for their relationship to take off," and they "still have love for each other, but things are over romantically." That being said, they "aren't ruling out the possibility of anything in the future."

People quoted another source as saying it was all "too much too soon" and that news of their breakup is "not shocking to anyone."

They were photographed together less than a week before news of their split emerged.

The couple first got together sometime in the spring and announced their surprised engagement weeks later, in May. Grande's engagement ring reportedly cost upwards of $100 thousand. Since getting engaged, the seemingly unlikely pair had been putting their relationship on full display and spent most of the summer months in New York City, living together in a $16 million apartment and frequently being photographed by paparazzi.

They made their red carpet debut as a couple at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.

Both of them were extremely open about their relationship, too, and Grande even named a song after him on her album "sweetener," which was released in August. Davidson discussed the relationship on the season premiere of "Saturday Night Live" at the end of last month, and he set down with Howard Stern recently for a wide-ranging interview, where he shared intimate details of their romance.

The split comes just over a month after Grande's ex, Mac Miller, passed away from a reported overdose, leaving her heartbroken. She's taken to Twitter on numerous occasions in the past several weeks to express as much, while also revealing that she was working on a quick follow-up album slated for release before the end of the year.
