'The Hills' reboot: Mischa Barton reportedly joins cast

Updated

It's the "The Hills"/"The O.C." crossover we never knew we needed.

Mischa Barton will reportedly join the cast of the upcoming reboot of the MTV reality show, Page Six reports.

The actress will appear on "The Hills: New Beginnings," which was announced at the MTV VMAs back in August, alongside Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Brody Jenner, Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port, among others.

Though the news may seem random at first, an insider revealed that it actually makes sense, as Barton, 32, was in the same scene back in the heyday on "The Hills," which initially ran for six seasons from 2006 until 2010.

"She was around back in the day and went to all the clubs," the source explained. "She could make for good TV."

Presumably, the source is referring to former hot spots frequented by the cast and Hollywood starlets like Les Deux and Area. Barton was a fixture on the party circuit and has definitely experienced her fair share of drama throughout her career, though she has stayed out of the headlines recently.

Former stars Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari will not appear on "The Hills: New Beginnings," set to air in 2019.
