Johnny Galecki will be on ‘The Conners’ – and Juliette Lewis will play his girlfriend

Updated

Johnny Galecki is coming back for more “Roseanne” — er, “The Conners.” And this time he’s bringing Juliette Lewis with him — as his girlfriend!

“HERE’S THE BIG NEWS!! Look what I’m doin!!” Lewis wrote on Instagram Tuesday, alongside a picture of her with Galecki and Sara Gilbert, as well as an image of her holding a script from the show.

A spokesperson for ABC confirmed Galecki’s return as David, an ex of Gilbert’s Darlene and the the father of her children, for the spinoff and said that Lewis will be playing Blue — his girlfriend who was referenced on the first (and last) season of the “Roseanne” revival last spring.

The romantic interest casting might give some “Christmas Vacation” fans a chuckle, as the two played brother and sister, Audrey and Russell Griswold, on the Chevy Chase-led 1989 comedy. Of course, the two did have a “moment” then where they had to sleep in the same bed to accommodate guests, and Galecki tried to cuddle his onscreen sister.

Here’s the awkward exchange Audrey had with her mother, Ellen (played by Beverly D’Angelo), about the situation:

Audrey: “Do you sleep with your brother? Do you know how sick and twisted that is?”

Ellen: “Well, I’m sleeping with your father. Don’t be so dramatic.”

Audrey: “I have nightmares about what he does in his bed alone when I’m not lying right next to him.”

When Galecki returns and Lewis makes her debut, the Conners will be down one big family member: Roseanne herself.

In case you’ve been living under rock for a few months, allow us to remind you Roseane Barr’s offensive “Planet of the Apes” tweet about ex-Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett in May led to her being fired and “Roseanne” being axed by the network. But ABC soon found a way to carry on by ordering the Barr-less spinoff “The Conners.”

“The Conners” premieres Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 8/7c on ABC.
