‘Big Bang Theory’ behind the scenes: Kaley Cuoco is ‘still afraid’ to ask Kathy Bates for a photo-op

Updated

“The Big Bang Theory” hurtled into its 12th and final season Monday night, and apparently series star Kaley Cuoco is still overcoming some of her fears.

Such as her fear of asking guest-star Kathy Bates for a photo-op.

Cuoco, who plays Penny on the series, took to Instagram Monday night, the same night as the Season 12 premiere of the CBS sitcom, to admit her anxiety.

Cuoco’s Instagram post featured a photo of Bates and co-star Johnny Galecki taking instruction in preparation for the show, with Cuoco lurking in the background, an apparently nervous smile on her face.

“Still afraid to ask Kathy Bates to take a picture with me. So this is all I got,” Cuoco wrote in accompaniment to the photo.

Bates appeared as Mrs. Fowler, the mother of Amy Fowler (played by Mayim Bialik) during an episode of the 11th season of the series, and is reprising the role for the series’ 12th and final season.

One can hardly blame Cuoco for being intimidated by Bates; she has put in pretty fearsome performances in the Stephen King adaptation “Misery” and on FX’s goosebumps-inducing anthology series “American Horror Story,” after all.
