Alec Baldwin teases return as Donald Trump on ‘SNL’

Alec Baldwin teased that his likely return as Donald Trump on this season’s “Saturday Night Live.”

“Oh, I think he’ll be back,” show producer Lorne Michaels said of the possibility that Baldwin would return for the show’s upcoming 44th season. “I think there is probably no other actor who is looking to take that and follow Alec. And I think, for a new cast member to come in and try that would be a really tough thing to do.”

Michaels’ comments came on the latest episode of James Andrew Miller’s “Origins” podcast, which also featured interviews with Baldwin himself and a number of the sketch comedy show’s writers, stars and producers.

“Trump is insane. I think most people know, the guy — he is insane. We have a man who is president who is insane,” said Baldwin. “You can’t go far enough with this idiot. You can’t go far enough. You can’t go far enough.”

Baldwin has twice been nominated for an Emmy for portraying Donald Trump on “SNL,” taking home the supporting actor in a comedy trophy in 2017.

However, the “30 Rock” alum has previously flirted with giving up the role, at one point saying that playing the president “has not been a lot of fun” and expressing concern that the parody was making a potentially destructive administration “too cuddly.”

When asked earlier this year if he’d hang up his hat for good, Baldwin offered “no comment.”

“What’s going to happen in the future? I don’t know where I’m going to working, where I’m going to be,” he said.
