Facebook issues apology after removing nude photo of Burt Reynolds

Fans of Burt Reynolds took to Facebook to mourn the late movie star on Thursday, but one famous photo was just a bit too sexy for social media.

An algorithm within Facebook identified the image -- a centerfold of Reynolds taken for "Cosmopolitan" years ago -- as a violation of its nudity rules.

However, one day later, Facebook says the auto-deletion was a mistake. The company has now reportedly apologized and is restoring the posts online, per The Blast.

The image in fact "does not break our standards and [we] apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused," a rep for Facebook told the site.

Reynolds passed away at 82 earlier this week due to cardiac arrest.
