Girl with leukemia asks for birthday postcards, gets one from Tom Hanks

This girl befriended a movie star and traveled to Japan and beyond, thanks to the kindness of strangers. Aspen Kelly has traveled all around the world, without ever leaving her home in Oklahoma.

The 12-year-old has leukemia, and because of her low white blood cell count, she has to stay inside. But with her birthday coming up, the creative girl found a smart way to see the world; she asked for postcards from strangers all over.

With two weeks until she becomes a teen, Aspen has already received more than 1,000 cards from all 50 states and 49 countries. Perhaps the best: one from the Governor of Oklahoma, and a hand-written note from actor Tom Hanks, who’s currently in Greece.
