Renee Zellweger sets first major TV role as lead in Netflix series ‘What/If’

Renée Zellweger has been cast to star in Netflix’s new drama series “What/If,” the streamer announced Friday.

The 10-episode anthology series will explore what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things, and each season will look at a different morality tale. Zellweger will play a woman named Anne, though further details about the character have not yet been announced.

“Revenge” and “Swingtown” creator Mike Kelley will act as showrunner and write the series. He will also executive produce with Melissa Loy for Page Fright, Alex Gartner, Charles Roven for Atlas Entertainment, Robert Zemeckis, and Jack Rapke for Compari Entertainment. Jackie Levine of Compari Entertainment will be co-executive producer.

The role marks the “Bridget Jones” alum and Academy Award winner’s first major foray into television since her acting debut in the 1992 made-for-TV movie “A Taste for Killing” on USA.

The Hollywood Reporter was first to report the news.
