Bill Murray was involved in a dispute with Carly Simon’s brother, photographer Peter Simon, at a restaurant in Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday night, according to the Boston Globe.
According to a police report obtained by the Globe, Simon says he was on assignment taking pictures at the establishment, Lola’s in Oak Bluffs, when the actor “accosted” him.
Simon told the Globe during a phone interview Thursday that when he stepped into an alcove to check his photos, he felt someone grab him from behind, turn him around and slam him up against a door. The photographer told the Globe the man said he should throw Simon out of the restaurant and injure him.
“He looked like he was ready to strangle me,” Simon told the Globe, noting that he did not recognize Murray.
Simon said he asked the man: “Do you know who I am?” a phrase which Simon said was intended to convey that he was a well-respected photographer and Murray responded, “Do you know who I am?”
Simon told the Globe he continued to take pictures in Lola’s and later on Murray poured a glass of water on him and his camera. “He treated me like the scum of the earth,” said Simon in the Thursday interview.
A spokesperson for the Oak Bluffs police department did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for a copy of the police report or confirmation on the incident. The restaurant, Lola’s, did not immediately return a call from TheWrap. An attorney for Murray did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
The Globe says the arrest report includes Murray’s claims that Simon was “taking pictures of him and harassing him while he was quietly minding his business.” The report states Murray was “visibly upset.”
According to the police report, Simon says he was not injured. The Globe states that Simon had not pressed charges as of Thursday night, “but he had not ruled it out, either.”
