Who is Constance Wu? The actress that's about to take over Hollywood

Updated

You might not know who Constance Wu is yet, but the Virginia-born actress and daughter of Taiwanese immigrants is about to be the next big thing in Hollywood.

Wu got her big break playing Kathy on a 2012 web series called "EastSiders" at 30-years-old. The critically-acclaimed series earned her two Indie Series Award nominations. She then went on to be cast as Jessica Huang in the ABC hit show "Fresh Off The Boat" and landed on the annual Time 100 influential list just two years later.

The 36-year-old actress is now about to be the star in the upcoming film "Crazy Rich Asians," which marks Hollywood's first all-Asian cast film in 25 years. The Warner Bros. film, directed by Jon M. Chu, is expected to seek mainstream success which means a breakthrough role for Wu.

Constance Wu first read the best-selling novel "Crazy Rich Asians," when she was working as an actress in L.A.

“A former agent of mine who is still a dear friend, he thought that this book was sort of taking over. He was like, ‘I think you should read this book. I think if they make a movie of this, there’s a part for you.’ And back then, I’m still a waitress and stuff, so I’m reading it, and I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, I could play this part, but I don’t know how to produce or any option or any kind of thing like that.’ So I was like, ‘Ok cool, great book. And when they do — if they do make something — I would love to audition for it.’” Wu told WWD in a recent profile of the actress.

The premiere of "Crazy Rich Asians" took place last night the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Wu stunned on the red carpet wearing a Ralph and Russo couture gown from the Spring'17 collection paired with Sophia Webster sandals and was draped in Lorrain Schwartz jewelry, styled by Micaela Erlanger)

Not only is Constance Wu about to be a big name in Hollywood but we have a feeling she's about to become a fashion show front-row regular.
