Meghan Markle accused of breaking Royal protocol by expressing political opinion

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, reportedly shook up the Royal family when she and her husband Prince Harry made their first official visit to Ireland.

She’s being accused of breaking protocol by expressing her political opinions on abortion. Irish Senator Catherine Noone posted a picture of her speaking with Meghan with the caption, “A pleasure to meet Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex at the British Ambassador's Residence this evening.

She added, “The Duchess and I had a chat about the recent referendum result - she watched with interest and was pleased to see the result.”

The referendum Noone is talking about is Ireland’s most recent vote to overturn a countrywide abortion ban.

Back in May, the country voted by more than 66 percent to get rid of the ban. The Senator deleted the message and wrote, “I clarified - it was a very benign chat, she expressed no political opinion. She was interested and charming.”

Since the 17th century, members of the monarchy in Britain have been banned from taking a public view on political issues, but from time to time their comments or opinions have surfaced on government policies.
