Patrika Darbo on her history with Roseanne Barr: 'She's always been a little nuts'

Updated

Over the past three decades, actress Patrika Darbo has worked with some of the biggest names in TV history. But lately, she's been thinking quite a bit about just one former co-star: Roseanne Barr.

"I'm sorry to see this kind of thing happen, but if it comes out of your mouth, you can't take it back," Darbo told AOL as she made her way to Vienna for its 25th annual Life Ball. "It's like plunging that knife into somebody and twisting it around and then going, 'Oh gosh, I'm sorry.'"

Back in 1994, Darbo appeared in just one -- but a well-known -- episode of "Roseanne," playing a woman who catches the attention of married Dan. A few years later, Darbo portrayed the real-life Roseanne in a dramatic TV movie titled "Roseanne and Tom: Behind the Scenes."

"She's always been a little nuts," Darbo said of the now-disgraced actress. "She stepped over the line and there's no going back."

The reboot cancelation is a disappointing development, Darbo said, because she was happy about the re-emergence of heartfelt family sitcoms, once a staple of nightly TV lineups. "We're so busy these days -- both parents are working -- when is the time to sit down and have a meal and enjoy things together?" she said. "How can you take care of children and give them a sense of family?"

Darbo is certainly no stranger to the sitcom format: She's starred on "Step By Step," "Seinfeld," "Growing Pains" and dozens more hit shows over the years. Soap fans also know her from "Days of Our Lives," where she appeared in 124 episodes between 1999 and 2017.
