Major makeover alert: Lady Gaga is dressing like a diva

Consider the days of Lady Gaga’s Joanne– aesthetic gone! The iconic singer has ditched her cut-offs, black boots, white tanks and pink cowboy hats for a majorly glam makeover that is equal parts Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor — and screams diva from head to toe (in the best way possible). Of course, our girl Gaga did so with not one, but three high-octane glamour-laced looks in NYC on Thursday, May 24.

First: the constant in the look was Gaga’s peroxide blonde hair (a Marilyn signature) that was tied up in a voluminous beehive-esque updo that took a page out of Old Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor’s playbook. With an elaborate ‘do like that, you work your outfits around it — and that’s just what the popstar did. The other elements included all three of her ensembles? Classic cat-eye glasses (one pair was slightly rounded) that evoke the timelessly chic style of the aforementioned screen sirens and black pumps.

First, Gaga stepped out wearing a crisp white A-line swing dress with a nipped waist and ruched bodice — evoking both that iconic scene in The Seven Year Itch, as well as the infamous paparazzi pics of Taylor back in the day. And to up the glamour, she added leather slingback pumps that she also rocked with her other two looks, and a satin clutch.

Next up, a tailored plaid skirt suit that was midi-length and complete with a slightly flared, longer blazer. In other words, it was another vintage look that looks as chic in 2008 as it would have in 1958. For this outfit, she also kept her satin clutch. Clearly, the music icon’s taste in accessories emphasizes their versatility.

And then for the final look, Gaga really turned up the heat. Not only did the diva add a classic red lip, but she donned a fire engine red mini dress with a major feathered embellishment at the back that almost resembled wings. Also present: black satin gloves, a vintage bag, fishnets and major baubles on her wrists and neck that channeled Elizabeth Taylor’s penchant for exquisite jewelry and Marilyn Monroe’s timeless statement that diamonds really are a girl’s best friend.

Given the level of glamour that Gaga served in one day, we can only anticipate that her new vibe will give us oodles of inspiration to look forward to in the months to come.
