'Fixer Upper' star Joanna Gaines says baby No. 5 was a 'total surprise'

"Fixer Upper" stars Chip and Joanna Gaines may be "so excited" for their fifth child, but baby No. 5 was never really part of their plan.

Speaking with People magazine for its latest cover story, the HGTV moguls opened up about discovering that they were expecting another child together and how it factored into their decision to bring their beloved "Fixer Upper" to an end after five seasons.

"I had been feeling a little emotional and crazy and thought, 'Wow, this isn't me,'" Joanna explained. "Then all of a sudden I realized, 'Hey, I remember this.' When I saw the results of the test, my jaw dropped."

"Chip was in the driveway about to leave when I called him back and said, 'We're pregnant,'" she continued. "He was so excited. We're both just so excited."

Joanna, who is due to give birth to their fifth baby this summer, admitted that the revelation that she was pregnant factored into the couple's decision to leave the show that made them household names -- it simply would've become too much, and it was a sign that they should move on.

"When we were done, we had no plan like, 'Let’s have baby No. 5,'" Joanna said. "It was a total surprise. But when we found out, it solidified that it was the right decision to leave when we did."

"We had a lot on our plates, and at some point you have to call those shots when you feel like you need a break," she added.
