Robin Thicke’s girlfriend, April Love Geary, wants to normalize breast-feeding in public. But not all of the model’s Instagram followers approved of her Sunday, April 21, photo, which showed her nursing 2-month-old Mia.
British Big Brother alum Chanelle Hayes had several issues with the picture that was snapped by Thicke, 41, in the couple’s bedroom. “I’m all for breast-feeding and having a choice how to feed your baby but WHY do people feel the need to post pictures of themselves doing it?” Hayes tweeted. “Especially the new pic of Robin Thicke’s gf! She’s got hair done, makeup on, both boobs out. So strange. #opinions.”
Geary, 23, responded on Instagram, pointing out that Hayes’ social media feed isn’t exactly G-rated and shared a screenshot of the topless reality star as evidence. “Maybe the next time you want to criticize me for posting a picture of myself breast-feeding you should should really take look at the pictures you’ve had taken,” wrote the first-time mom on Sunday. “Not that taking nudes are wrong! The naked body is a beautiful thing. but don’t be a hypocrite mama.”
Hayes wasn’t the only person who critiqued Geary’s snap with Mia. “omg so staged we all know what breast-feeding is so we don’t need to see pics at least cover the other boob,” seethed another person in comments. A third called declared that it was “a private moment” that the world doesn’t need to see.
But despite a handful of cruel comments, the response was overwhelmingly positive. As one woman wrote: “Breast-feeding is much more beautiful to me than topless glamour photos, and your gorgeous photo feeding your baby is doing a lot for normalizing it. #keepinggoing.”
Geary and the “Blurred Lines” singer welcomed Mia on February 22. Thicke shares son Julian, 8, with his ex-wife Paula Patton.
