Meghan Markle 'wears the trousers' in relationship with Prince Harry, bears key similarities to Princess Diana

Updated

No doubt about it: Meghan Markle has Princess Diana's signature strong-willed attitude.

"She is definitely the one wearing the trousers in their relationship," People reports, citing a royal insider. “She is a strong, opinionated woman who has her own ideas about things, and that’s one of the things he loves about her.”

The description bears an uncanny resemblance to how others have recalled the late Princess Di, famously known as the "people's princess." Instead of being cookie-cutter, Diana was known for having a vibrant personality.

That said, Diana did come from a family long-aligned with the Windsors; she even grew up playing with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward at her Norfolk home. Meghan, on the other hand, made a name for herself, with no familial connections helping her rise in the ranks in Hollywood -- much less get her close to Buckingham Palace.

“Meghan was established before she met Harry,” the insider continues. “That’s a first for the royal family. I don’t think Harry was ever going to marry a nice upper-class girl from the [English] counties—it’s just not him.”

With just a few weeks to go before she weds Prince Harry, it's hard not to reflect on the late Diana, who died just over 20 years ago. Harry has stated that his mother would have been thrilled with the woman he's chosen to make his wife.

"I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, so excited for me," Prince Harry said in late 2017.
