Nickelodeon drops Dan Schneider, creator of iCarly and other hit shows

Dan Schneider has produced his final series for Nickelodeon.

The network has ended its working relationship with the producer, famous for creating hits like The Amanda Show (1999–2002), Drake & Josh (2004–2007), iCarly (2007–2012), Victorious (2010–2013) and Sam & Cat (2013–2014), our sister site Deadline reports.

“Following many conversations together about next directions and future opportunities, Nickelodeon and our long-time creative partner Dan Schneider/Schneider’s Bakery have agreed to not extend the current deal,” reads a statement from Nickelodeon. “Since several Schneider’s Bakery projects are wrapping up, both sides agreed that this is a natural time for Nickelodeon and Schneider’s Bakery to pursue other opportunities and projects.”

Though the Schneider-created series Game Shakers was recently canceled, he still has two projects — Henry Danger and its animated offshoot The Adventures of Kid Danger — airing on Nickelodeon; it’s being reported that the live-action comedy will likely continue for a fifth season, while the cartoon’s future could go either way.

And while there are no new allegations of misconduct connected with the severing of this deal, Deadline notes that Schneider has existed under a “cloud of suspicion” throughout much of his time at Nickelodeon, particularly over his relationships with his show’s younger stars. The series he created have gone on to launch the careers of actresses like Amanda Bynes, Miranda Cosgrove, Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande.

Schneider received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2014 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
