Vibrant in velour? Tracee Ellis Ross gets mixed reviews in gold-and-blue ensemble at American Black Film Festival

Updated

Tracee Ellis Ross is always a style risk-taker (just like her iconic mother, Diana Ross!) -- but her outfit at this year's 2018 American Black Film Festival Honors Awards wasn't one of our favorites!

The actress wore a chunky turtleneck velour gown Sunday night, which she paired with a matching shoe for a look that certainly seemed comfortable but would flatter no figures.

While the ensemble was questionable -- you don't often see turtlenecks on the red carpet! -- Ross still looked confident as ever, which is really what can make or break a look.

Seemingly by coincidence, Issa Rae also wore a blue and gold gown in near-identical shades. However, Issa's look was an undisputed win -- how gorgeous is that bodice?! We also love the volume in her ponytail!

Take a look at all the red carpet arrivals in the gallery above -- and see Tracee with mom Diana at last year's American Music Awards in the one below.
