Courtney Love honors late husband Kurt Cobain's birthday

Courtney Love commemorated the birthday of her late husband, rock icon Kurt Cobain, with a short but sweet message on Instagram.

Cobain, who died in 1994, would have turned 51 on Tuesday.

“Happy birthday baby,” Love began the Instagram post, which featured a black-and-white photo of Cobain embracing her.

“God I miss you.”

Cobain took his own life at the age of 27 on April 5, 1994. The body of the Nirvana frontman, whose personal battles with depression and substance abuse were well-documented, was discovered inside his Seattle home three days later with a gun pointed towards his chin.

The grunge legend praised Love and their then 1-year-old daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, in a suicide note that was discovered near his body.

“I have a goddess of a wife who sweats ambition and empathy and a daughter who reminds me too much of what i used to be, full of love and joy, kissing every person she meets because everyone is good and will do her no harm. And that terrifies me to the point to where I can barely function,” Cobain wrote at the time. “I can’t stand the thought of Frances becoming the miserable, self-destructive, death rocker that I’ve become.”

Love and Cobain got married in 1992, and Frances — now 25 — was their only daughter. Frances celebrated being two years sober in an Instagram post last week.

Cobain, one of the most influential artists of his generation, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 as part of Nirvana, along with his bandmates Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl.
