Justin Timberlake was '100 percent' ready to use Prince hologram -- until social media backlash: Report

Talk about a game-time decision.

Justin Timberlake decided not to use a Prince hologram during his Super Bowl halftime show at the very last minute, according to a new report. It was set in stone -- until social media did what it does best.

“He was 100 percent ready to use the hologram but nixed it due to backlash from social media and Prince fans," an insider told Page Six. "That’s why he had that sheet up like in your mama’s backyard."

The "sheet" refers to a large cloth on which videos of Prince were projected while Timberlake played piano.

Thousands of Twitter users blasted JT over the hologram idea, with many asserting that the late icon had a religious opposition to such technology. That claim was in fact confirmed by Prince's longtime friend Sheila E., who tweeted on Saturday morning -- the day before the Super Bowl -- "Prince told me don’t ever let anyone do a hologram of me. Not cool if this happens!"

She later elaborated to Entertainment Tonight, "He thought it was very demonic and that’s his spiritual beliefs.”

Calling the hologram idea "weird," she heavily implied Timberlake's camp had tried to go forward with the plan with 24 hours left on the clock. Hours after her initial tweet, she told fans she'd just spoken with Timberlake and "there is no hologram."

"I just said no. I just felt that it was too soon," she told ET.

However, sources close to Timberlake have said that he never planned to use the hologram in the first place.

Who needs sports when we have drama like this?
