Justin Timberlake's Super Bowl halftime show will reportedly feature hologram of Prince

We’re just one day away from the Super Bowl. New England and Philadelphia arrived in Minneapolis earlier this week and will duke it out on Sunday night to claim the coveted Lombardi Trophy.

A familiar face will reportedly make an appearance during the game. No, we’re not talking about Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, who have made it to yet another title game.

We’re talking about a halftime performer. We’ve known for a while now that Justin Timberlake will perform during the halftime presentation.

However, not much is known about his performance. Will he employ an additional act, or just fly solo for the duration of his performance?

Well, according to a report from TMZ, a Minnesota native will accompany JT onstage. The only caveat is that the performer passed away in 2016.

TMZ is reporting that Prince will appear during the halftime show in a hologram. if the news is true, Prince’s likeness won’t be the first to be used as a hologram.

Five years ago, Snoop Dogg performed alongside a “hologram” of Tupac. It was revealed later that the “hologram” of Tupac was actually a series of mirrors and other technology.

Here’s more from TMZ:

Our sources also reveal there are no ‘NSYNC or Janet Jackson cameos planned … so anyone hoping for a reunion or redemption … you can pretty much abandon all hope.

HOWEVER, we’re told Justin does have one pretty cool trick up his sleeve — a hologram to honor … wait for it … Prince, in his hometown.

Now, we’re not sure if the hologram of Prince will actually perform, or if it will just be present during the halftime show. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out if the report is accurate.

Super Bowl LII kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET.
