Scott Baio responds to Nicole Eggert's allegations of molestation beginning at age 14

Updated

Scott Baio has issued an official response to allegations that he repeatedly molested Nicole Eggert when she was 14.

Eggert came forward with her claims on Jan. 27 with a bombshell tweet: "Ask @scottbaio what happened in his garage at his house when I was a minor. Creep," she wrote, later specifying her statement to claim that Baio molested her between ages 14 and 17.

In response, Baio, who co-starred with Eggert on "Charles in Charge" in the late 1980s, wrote a lengthy statement accusing Eggert of "deliberately lying."

Calling her claims "provably wrong," Baio alleges that Eggert once attempted to share her story with Dr. Oz. "After they reviewed evidence of her deceit ... they cancelled the planned show," he said.

Baio acknowledges one sexual encounter with Eggert but asserts that she initiated it and that it occurred once she was of age.

At least one person associated with the show has publicly come to Eggert's defense: Writer Adam Carl tweeted to Eggert, "When I worked on Charles in Charge in ‘88, I sat with you while you cried about that abusive asshole. I know you’re telling the truth and I’m so glad to see you speaking out."

In a Facebook Live video, Baio expanded on his defense, describing their alleged consensual sexual encounter: "Now, any normal, heterosexual, red-blooded, American guy, the outcome would have been the same, the same thing would have happened. She seduced me. She came in the house and started kissing me."
