Elton John knew that Prince Harry was in love with Meghan Markle before Harry proposed to his now-fiancée.

During an interview on ITV's "Lorraine" show on Thursday, the singer, who announced his retirement this week, opened up about how he knew that Harry had found love in the former "Suits" actress.

"I spent some time with him at Google Camp in Sicily last summer, and I could tell that he was totally in love," John said. "And he didn't really discuss much personally, but he said, 'I'm in love.' And I thought, 'Good for you.' And both boys seem to be stunningly happy and that's all you want people to be, no matter who they are."

John was a close friend to Harry's late mother, Princess Diana, and he's been open about the fact that he continues to feel an investment in his -- and his brother, Prince William's -- happiness.

"When people get married, you want it to last," he added. "You want them to be happy. I'm happy for him. I hope they have a wonderful day."

Though John has yet to receive an invitation to Harry and Meghan's upcoming May 19 nuptials, he expressed interest in being there.

"It would be nice because I love him very dearly," he said, before calling Harry and William "very special."
