Oprah Winfrey shuts down rumors of a 2020 presidential run

Sorry, folks: Oprah Winfrey will not be running for president.

In an interview with InStyle published on Thursday, Winfrey shut down rumors of a potential 2020 presidential run once and for all, saying that she doesn't have "the DNA for it."

"I've always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not," the March cover star told InStyle editor-in-chief Laura Brown. "And so it's not something that interests me."

"I don't have the DNA for it," she added. "That's not for me."

The clear statement comes less than a month after the former talk show host stirred speculation -- and public desire -- for a future run for president with her acclaimed, emotional acceptance speech at the Golden Globes in early January.

During the address, which she gave while accepting the Cecile B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement, Winfrey made a call for gender equality and the end of systemic sexual misconduct not just in Hollywood, but in all professional work environments.

"I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon," she declared to rousing applause. "And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women -- and some pretty phenomenal men -- fighting hard to make sure they become the leaders who take us to a time when nobody ever has to say 'Me too' again."

It was a momentous moment that garnered a passionate response both by celebrities who were there in person and the public who watched on television or online. #Oprah2020 was trending on Twitter for days afterward, and (very) preliminary polls of a hypothetical race between Winfrey and President Donald Trump showed that Oprah would come out victorious.

Husband Stedman Graham had been quoted as saying that "she would absolutely do it," while best friend Gayle King said on "CBS This Morning" that her pal had no plans to run for president, though she was definitely "intrigued" by the idea.

But, for now, it seems, Winfrey is quelling the speculation. Oprah will not run for president -- for now, at least.
