Jane Fonda shades Megyn Kelly during 'Today' show interview

Jane Fonda still has a bone to pick with Megyn Kelly.

During an appearance on the "Today" show with Lily Tomlin on Tuesday morning, the actress took a jab at the "Megyn Kelly Today" host a few months after Kelly rubbed Fonda the wrong way by asking her about plastic surgery.

The exchange started when new "Today" co-anchor Hoda Kotb asked the pair about their long-standing friendship.

"You guys are real friends on and off camera, right?" Kotb asked.

"Sometimes," Fonda said jokingly.

"How long have you two known each other?" Kotb followed up.

"50 years," Fonda replied before Tomlin delivered the kicker. "Long time," Tomlin added. "I knew you before your first face-lift!"

The one-liner resulted in a sea of laughs from Kotb, Savannah Guthrie and Tomlin, but Fonda dramatically dropped her jaw in response to the quip, before serving up a headline-making retort of her own.

"We don't need to hear that," Fonda declared. "Who are you? Megyn Kelly?!"

"Oh, that's right! I forgot she was the one. I thought it was Hoda or Savannah," Tomlin replied.

A year after leaving Ted Turner, former actress Jane Fonda says she has radically changed her life - giving up her famed exercise regimen to write a book about her controversial days as a Vietnam War era peace activist. In an interview with Barbara Walters for ABC's "20/20" to be aired February 9, 2001, Fonda, 63, whose workout videos helped spark the fitness craze of the 1980s and '90s, said she has largely given up exercise because it interferes with her writing. She is shown in a September 26, 1997 file photo. SV

Fonda's reaction on Tuesday was in reference to her interview during Megyn Kelly's first week on the "Today" show in September of last year. During her sit-down with Fonda and Robert Redford, Kelly took the opportunity to ask Fonda about her age-defying looks and the fact that she's admitted to getting work done.

"You've been an example to everyone on how to age beautifully and with strength and unapologetically," Kelly said to Fonda. "You admit you've had work done, which I think is to your credit. You look amazing. Why did you say that -- I read that you're not proud to admit that you've had work done. Why not?"

"We really want to talk about that now?" Fonda responded in shock.

The moment was just one of many cringe-worthy interviews by Kelly during her first weeks on NBC's premiere morning show, and clearly Fonda hasn't forgotten about it.

On Monday, Fonda revealed that she had a cancerous growth removed from her bottom lip during an appearance at BUILD Series, also alongside her "Grace & Frankie" co-star Lily Tomlin. She showed up wearing a bandage to cover her lip.
