Mariah Carey felt terrible for stealing Meryl Streep's seat during the Golden Globes

Updated

Mariah Carey had a great time at the Golden Globes on Sunday night (Jan. 7). Sure, she didn't win her first shot at a songwriter award for "The Star" and it's unclear if she ever got that tea she was waiting for, but the singer did get to share a seat with one of Hollywood's most esteemed women. Actually, she took her seat and then apologized profusely.

It seems Carey slipped out of the room for a minute at some point during the show and when she returned to hear seat during a commercial break she accidentally slipped into The Post star's spot, ending up right next to director Steven Spielberg. "Got caught mingling on the way to the loo during a commercial break.. took the first seat available, happens to be right next to Steven Spielberg," she tweeted.

"Cut to next commercial break, guess who comes back to her seat..."

Carey apologized profusely and told eight-time Globes winner Streep she could take her seat anytime.

Carey was very gracious in defeat as well, congratulating the best original song winner "This is Me" from The Greatest Showman and Oprah Winfrey for her inspiring, highly praised Cecile B. DeMille award acceptance speech about empowering women.
