Hoda Kotb will make a fraction of Matt Lauer's salary as 'Today' anchor

Updated

NBC is getting a sweet deal in Hoda Kotb.

Kotb is making just a fraction of what her predecessor made in the same role: Matt Lauer banked a massive $25 million salary in his "Today" show spot, while Kotb will take home $7 million, according to Page Six.

The still-impressive figure matches co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, and Kotb "isn't complaining the money." The insider notes that Lauer's salary reflected his lengthy 25 years on the show. However, having started at NBC in 1998, Kotb has been with the network for nearly as long.

Even more puzzling, perhaps, is the massive pay gap between Kotb and Megyn Kelly. Kelly receives $20 million a year for hosting the 9 AM hour, while Kotb will be live on the air for three times the amount of time, from 7 to 9 and then again at 10.

Lauer was suddenly terminated from NBC in November 2017 as reports emerged about his alleged sexual behavior toward subordinate colleagues. At least ten women have come forward to detail their experiences with the ousted anchor.
