According to its website, The Time’s Up movement is a "unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere." It was launched via an open letter in the New York Times signed by over 300 major names in entertainment.

"The struggle for women to break in, to rise up the ranks and to simply be heard and acknowledged in male-dominated workplaces must end," the letter read. "Time’s up on this impenetrable monopoly."

The organization's launch comes after the takedown of movie producer Harvey Weinstein led to an explosive movement in Hollywood revealing the decades of sexual misconduct by powerful men behind closed doors.
