Alfie Curtis, Dr. Evazan in 'Star Wars: A New Hope,' dies at 87 (report)

Alfie Curtis, the actor who famously intimidated Luke Skywalker as Dr. Evazan at the Mos Eisley cantina in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, has died at age 87, Comicbook.com reports. The cause of death was not revealed.

On Tuesday, Mark Hamill, who plays Skywalker in the film, tweeted Curtis would "be missed."

"Alfie Curtis made the #Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina scene (one of the most memorable I've ever been a part of) even MORE memorable. As horrific as he was on-camera, off-camera he was funny, kind & a real gentleman. Thanks Alf- you'll be missed. #RIP," he wrote.

When Hamill's Skywalker bumps into the character Ponda Baba in the fourth Star Wars installment, Curtis' character tells him that neither he nor his friend Baba like him. "You just watch yourself. We're wanted men. I have the death sentence on 12 systems," he says. When he further threatens Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) steps in with his lightsaber and slashes of Baba's arms, intimidating Evazan.

In addition to his iconic Star Wars role, Curtis played the Milkman in 1980's The Elephant Man, Matt Beckett on the 1980-1981 television series Cribb and Ted in 1986's television miniseries Lost Empires, among other roles.
