Harry Styles fills in for James Corden 'literally at the last minute' as Corden's wife goes into labor

Updated

Congratulations are in order for James Corden -- and many thanks to Harry Styles for letting us know!

The "Late Late Show" host and his wife welcomed a new baby girl on Tuesday night, and we heard the big news from his last-minute guest host! Harry stepped in "literally at the last minute" to take over for Corden as his wife went into labor.

"Just a half hour ago, James and his wife Jules had a beautiful baby girl," Harry said, quipping, "In fact, I was just at the hospital before I came to fill in, and she looks a lot like James, mainly because James looks like a giant baby."

Harry filled in for his longtime friend with just a few hours' notice, Corden and executive producer Ben Winston confirmed. "What a performance with no prep!" Winston tweeted.

Harry has taken control of the "Late Late Show" stage before, so this wasn't totally uncharted territory for him. He had a week-long residency in May, where he essentially co-hosted alongside Corden.

The unexpected hosting gig caps off a huge year for the star. In addition to his massive hit debut album and solo tour, he was in "Dunkirk," which has slowly built Oscar buzz over the course of the year.

So -- singer, actor, and late-night host with model looks. Well, the rest of us are just stuck with what we've got.
