‘Dancing With the Stars’ set to air special all-athletes competition

Moments after singer Jordan Fisher was named the winner of “Dancing With the Stars” Season 25 on Tuesday, the ABC reality series announced a special upcoming edition.

Sports stars have often proven to be the victors on the reality competition, and now the network is launching an all-athletes competition, set to air Spring 2018.

Ten athletes from all corners of the sports world will be teamed up with the show’s professional dancers and compete on the ballroom floor for a chance to win the coveted Mirrorball trophy, the network said in a statement.

Hosted by two-time Emmy-winning host Tom Bergeron and Fox Sports host Erin Andrews, the special all-athletes edition of “Dancing with the Stars” will air live.

The athletes will perform choreographed dance routines that are judged by a panel of renowned ballroom experts, as well as viewer votes.

Stars from the sports world who have previously taken home the Mirrorball include boxer gymnast Shawn Johnson, NFL players Emmitt Smith, Donald Driver and Hines Ward, speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno and race car driver Hélio Castroneves.

“Dancing with the Stars” is produced by BBC Worldwide Productions. Ashley Edens-Shaffer and Joe Sungkur are executive producers.
