Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep tackle the Pentagon Papers in first trailer for Spielberg's 'The Post'

The first trailer for Steven Spielberg's The Post dropped on Tuesday.

At a time when journalism is under attack from accusations of "fake news," the timely movie tells the story of the Washington Post's first female publisher Kay Graham (Meryl Streep) and its editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks) attempts to publish the Pentagon Papers, a political cover-up that spanned three decades and four U.S. presidents.

The period film has an all-star cast headed by Oscar-winners Hanks and Streep and also includes Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford, and Zach Woods.

The Post will be released in select theaters on Dec. 22 and go on general release on Jan. 12.
