Sarah Hyland confirms fan theory that 'Modern Family' character Haley Dunphy is bisexual

"Modern Family" broke family sitcom molds by featuring a gay couple -- and another leading character may be part of the LGBT community, too.

Sarah Hyland, who plays Haley Dunphy, wrote on Twitter Wednesday that while she's unsure of the official stance of the show's writers, she believes her character is bisexual.

"I don't know what the writers would say? But I confirm," Hyland tweeted to a fan who asked if the theory was true.

Haley has had nine boyfriends throughout the course of the show and has never expressed an interest in dating women, but Hyland is clearly confident in her assessment! No "Modern Family" writers have weighed in as of yet.

In real life, Hyland recently split with longtime boyfriend Dominic Sherwood and has recently sparked romance rumors with "The Bachelorette" alum Wells Adam. The two seemingly confirmed their budding relationship with some flirty Halloween photos as they both dressed as characters from "Stranger Things."

It was quite a night for Hyland on Twitter: Just after confirming the bisexuality theory, she took to task a Life & Style report that suggested she'd undergone plastic surgery, calling it "degrading." After a scathing response, in which she emphasized that it's been a particularly difficult year for her health, she put a more humorous spin on the situation with a series of selfie videos.

"Got some work done tonight," she captioned a photo of herself in a face mask. "Going for a new look... gonna write about this now?"
