Hugh Hefner's stunning act of kindness for Hunter S. Thompson's widow comes to light

After Hugh Hefner’s death on Wednesday, many people who knew and loved the Playboy founder have come out on social media to pay their respects.

Hunter S. Thompson‘s widow, Anita Thompson, posted a photo on Facebook with a heartfelt letter about a time the Hefner helped her after her husband’s suicide left her with very little money.

"Immediately following Hunter’s death, before his wishes that he wrote in his Trust were understood, our joint checking was taken over by trustees, leaving me broke," she revealed. "Out of the blue, Playboy magazine sent me a gift of $25K to help me through the chaos."

She continued by saying that Hefner, along with two others, "did this without asking anything in return."

Thompson had a history with the magazine and was friends with Hefner.

Hefner passed away from natural causes at the Playboy mansion. He was 91.

Hefner’s death comes 12 years after the legendary journalist Thompson died from a self-inflicted gunshot to his head at his Colorado ranch in 2005.
