Hugh Hefner will be buried next to Marilyn Monroe

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner is staying true to form even after death.

Hefner will reportedly be buried next to Marilyn Monroe at the Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles, Calif., after he died of natural causes on Wednesday at the age of 91.

Hefner famously bought the crypt next to Monroe’s for a reported $75,000 in 1992 - nearly four decades after he featured the Hollywood icon on the cover of Playboy's first-ever issue in 1953.

The issue, which sold 50,000 copies, catapulted the magazine to success after Hefner started it in his kitchen with an $8,000 loan.

The famous publisher died Wednesday at his Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills surrounded by his loved ones.

His son Cooper Hefner, who is chief creative officer at Playboy Enterprises, issued a statement that read, “My father lived an exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer and a leading voice behind some of the most significant social and cultural movements of our time in advocating free speech, civil rights and sexual freedom.”

“He defined a lifestyle and ethos that lie at the heart of the Playboy brand, one of the most recognizable and enduring in history,” he added.

Celebrities from Kim Kardashian to Rev. Jesse Jackson paid tribute to Hefner on social media, remembering him as both a friend and an advocate for gay marriage and racial equality.
